With its eight-characteristic, the CCM 8 is a real dipole with only one membrane. The meeting direction is lateral, ie perpendicular to the microphone body and is marked at 0° and 180° by a red or black dot on the microphone body. The nature of the pressure gradient pickup becomes very clear with this type of microphone:
-the sensitivity drops towards low frequencies
-the directional diagram and thus the degree of directivity are extraordinarily little frequency-dependent
-the proximity effect is pronounced
The directionality of the eight is just as high as that of the cardioid, but it does not pick up lateral sound (from 90° to the main axis). The sound of the MK 8 is relatively bright and neutral.
