The CCM 4 is the best-selling compact microphone in the CCM series, as it combines the highest sound quality with optimal rear attenuation. The basis for this is their flat frequency response and a directivity that remains the same at all frequencies. This type of microphone therefore has a similarly constant frequency response with a slight increase at 10 kHz, even in a diffuse sound field. The sound image is therefore free of discolouration both with direct and lateral input as well as for diffuse sound (reverberation) in the room.
Frequency Response
The CCM 4 has been optimized with regard to its insensitivity to sound coming from behind. As is characteristic of the classic cardioid, the attenuation is 6 dB for lateral incidence below 90° and 20 to 30 dB for incidence from the rear. Diffuse incident sound is reproduced 4.8 dB weaker than frontal sound, a value that corresponds to the directivity factor. The larger this is, the less "space" a microphone transmits and the less susceptible it is to acoustic feedback.
Due to its directivity, the CCM 4 can be set up about 1.7 times as far away from the sound source as a pressure receiver of the same sensitivity with the same reverberation balance.
