With the CCM 2XS (formerly CCM 3), we have created a type of microphone that compensates for high-frequency losses at a large distance from the sound source – i.e. in the diffuse sound field, outside the reverberation radius – and brightens up the room portion somewhat. The increase in treble shown in the frequency response disappears in practical use when set up at a distance from the sound source in rooms.
In the case of frontal sound incidence from a smaller distance, on the other hand, the emphasis on the highs clearly comes into play, which leads to a particularly brilliant sound image. The CCM 2XS is often used as a room microphone or in the near field if this brilliance is desired.
