The CCM 22 was developed for use as a spot microphone. It combines the strengths of the CCM 4 and the CCM 21. Its directivity is only slightly smaller than that of the CCM 4 cardioid microphone. The sound character is reminiscent of the CCM 21 wide cardioid. The degree of directivity (approx. 4 dB) is frequency-independent. The bass reproduction is slightly more pronounced than with the cardioid and the proximity effect is slightly weaker.
The Open Cardioid® polar pattern was developed by SCHOEPS in 2008. It is located between the classic kidney and the wide kidney. Sensitivity at 90° is -5dB, reverse sensitivity is -16dB. It is a special variant of the cardioid that achieves a very natural sound with good directivity.
